Performs EEG’s in the Neurophysiology Lab, in the Intensive Care Unit, in the Emergency Room, in the Operating Room, and in the Special Care Nursery. Participates in QI activities.
o Performs standard EEG recordings, including long term monitoring (LTM0.
o Monitors EEG intraoperatively during carotid endarterectomy.
o Documents pertinent history and medications.
o Explains the procedures to the patient, any family members present, and medical personnel.
o Adapts instrumentation to obtain optimal results based on history, clinical observations and test findings.
o Provides appropriate patient care and detailed observation of clinical manifestations during seizures or other patient emergency situations.
o Insures electrical safety of patient at all times.
o Keeps the Neurophysiology Lab and equipment in clean operating condition. Performs maintenance of laboratory equipment and reports the need for major servicing.
o Logs in appropriate patient data, enters orders, processes charges and prepares tests for interpretation by neurologist. Archives all studies.
o Takes weekend call rotation and may be called in at night for emergency tests.
o Participates in conferences, technical meetings and other educational activities.
Provides secretarial coverage when needed, including, but not limited to checking in patients, scheduling Neurophysiology tests, and other administrative tasks Performs other duties as required, including daily code cart checks and monthly code cart maintenance, checking supplies etc.
Registered in EEG by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologists, Inc. (ABRET), or ABRET eligible (must complete within one year).
High school graduate and a graduate of an Electroneurodiagnostic Technology
Program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or equivalent formal training.
At least 2 years of college is preferred. One to three years of hospital clinical experience in EEG's and EP's preferred.
CPR certification required.
