Conducts and records all types Intraoperative Monitoring, including but not limited to: Motor Evoked Potentials, EMG, Somatosensory Evoked Potientials, EEG recording for aneurysm coiling, etc. Exhibit expertise by obtaining certification for CNIM. Performs EPs when needed.
Reviews planned intraoperative procedure and orders for monitoring to determine the structures at risk relative to patient history/pre-existing conditions and monitoring requested.
Makes needed adjustments in monitoring by communicating with correct personnel while maintaining patient confidentiality according to facility policy and procedures
Communicates with needed departments and doctors offices to obtain access and scheduling of patient.
Monitors neurophysiologic central/peripheral functioning throughout the operative procedure, communicating with surgeon, neurophysiologist, anesthesia team and nursing staff as necessary. Recognizes clinically significant events and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results.
Documents in surgery log throughout monitoring process all relative communications/responses, physiological status, anesthetic adjustments, and changes in verbal responses according to facility policy and procedures.
Provides findings, results and a descriptive analysis.
May travel to satellite sites as needed.
Maintains continuing education requirements of ABRET for CNIM certification by reviewing literature for latest accepted practices and electrical safety relevant to equipment and testing.
Will take call after hours for the IOM program as specified by the neurophysiology supervisor.
Must have Bachelor’s
Must be able to understand directions and be able to communicate and respond to inquiries; requires effective interpersonal skills.
Must be able to input and retrieve information from computer.
Must be able to operate IOM units.
CNIM certification required.
Graduate from an accredited school of Neurodiagnostic Technology preferred.
Experience in electroneurodiagnostics procedures including evoked potentials and EEG preferred.
Two (2) years IOM experience preferred.
