Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Molecular Technologist.
In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for routine molecular testing including sample processing, nucleic acid extractions and traditional PCR assay procedures. This individual will also be responsible for routine methylation, DNA Sequencing and Next-Generation Sequencing. Other responsibilities, as directed by the supervisor, lab manager and/or asst. director, include quality control, instrument maintenance, troubleshooting cases, QA, validations and development of new tests and training.
Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for compliance with environmental services, JCAHO, NYS DOH, and CAP regulations.
- Performs and oversees tests with diagnostic purposes
- Retrieves clinical information using the PowerPath system.
- Processes patient specimens as specified for individual molecular tests using standard procedure manual.
- Performs purification and extraction of nucleic acids using automated or manual methods. Performs quantification of nucleic acid and recording the data. Performs PCR reactions and gel electrophoresis using standard precautions as described in the molecular SOPM. Properly operates and programs the PCR and sequencing machines.
- Participates in quality control procedures (reagents, machines) as delineated by the supervisor.
- Assures daily quality of results, communicates issues to lead tech or supervisor.
- Ensures that the necessary reagents are available for the performance of clinical tests. Orders them when necessary.
- Responsible for the maintenance, validation, and troubleshooting of all equipment in molecular pathology.
- Responsible for chemical, biohazard and radioactive materials handling, storage and disposal.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a program registered by the NYS Department of Education or Bachelor's Degree in the major of biology, chemistry or physical sciences from an accredited college or university with 4 years of molecular clinical laboratory experience and one year NGS and DNA Sequencing experience.

Required Licenses: Restricted Clinical Lab Lic, CliniclLabTechnolgst-NYSPermit, Clinical Lab Technologist-NYS
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters or PhD in Cell or Molecular Biology. 2+ years experience in Next-Generation Molecular Diagnostics.
