Overview
This position is responsible for all aspects of patient result reporting in any assigned area of the laboratory, demonstrating superior proficiency in analysis, quality control and quality assurance operation and evaluation, procedure implementation and maintenance, superior communication skills, customer service, instrument implementation and maintenance, problem solving, leadership and organization/prioritization skills. This position is responsible for the daily performance of a team for an assigned functional area within a facility and collaborates with all members of the health care team to provide quality service to our customers.

Responsibilities
Monitors daily workflow of departmental processes, and works assigned shifts in areas of oversight. Maintains skills to perform all functions in area of oversight. Coordinate the operations of assigned areas, to include hiring, orientation, scheduling, educational needs & staff competency. Assists laboratory manager in the resolution of systems issues and assists lab management in enforcing department policies. Ensures that standards for compliance, use of equipment, and quality control are met as required by all accrediting, state, and/or federal agencies. Ensures regulatory requirements of the department are met, delegating duties to staff as appropriate. Provides manager with timely information regarding variances of these standards.Facilitate quality and safety activities including department Quality Improvement projects and plan, assumes oversight of ongoing proficiency and competency testing. Ensures quality results through the use and evaluation of control materials, proper instrument maintenance, analysis and reporting of proficiency testing results as well as the review of returned results with the department manager.Makes recommendations for technical changes and improvements in their section with the section's manager. Participates with vendors and technical representatives to maintain equipment services.Provides input into hiring, orientation, educational needs, and performance reviews of other laboratory personnel.Develops and maintains an effective communication mechanism with all external and internal customers. Exemplifies service orientation and behaviors in all contacts. Identifies, addresses and communicates opportunities to improve work processes and enable achievement of goals in quality, productivity and customer satisfaction. Performs all functions of a Med Lab Scientist 2. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Foundation Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.
Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree (BA or BS) in Medical Technology, clinical laboratory science or clinically related biological science.Successful examination and registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) or equivalent. Requires at least 3 years of experience as a medical laboratory scientist as applicable. Must demonstrate ability to lead and motivate team, requires the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision and to work independently. Demonstrates excellent problem solving skills, and high level of self-motivation. Communicates effectively in oral and written formats sufficient to demonstrate comprehension. Use of mathematics, performance of detailed work; working with frequent interruptions, multi-tasking, problem solving, and memorization, Ability to take direction and assimilate instructions quickly.Basic computer skills are required.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSMaster's degree in healthcare related field.Experience as an MLS in a clinical hospital laboratory. Leadership experience. Specialty certification in department's area.Ability to utilize computer programs for reports and graphs.
